As an intern, what will I be doing?

Internship is a combination of academic learning and personal hands-on experience; our program is specifically designed to develop and advance your leadership skills as well as expand Godly wisdom for modern day missionary assignments.

The training consists of approximately 4 hours of classroom instruction per week, in addition to assignments and real world outreach.  Most of your time will be spent working alongside staff members, gaining hands-on experience ministering to the children and families in the inner city. This program cultivates spiritual, physical and emotional stamina, so expect to be stretched, overwhelmed at times and truly transformed as you see God move and work in the lives of hurting people.  You will grow as you go!

As an intern, will I be safe?

Safety is always a top priority, yet any encounter has the potential for unexpected challenges.  We cannot guarantee that conflicts or violence will not occur.  However, specific guidelines have been set in place to reduce the risk, including a nightly curfew.

In our New York City location, physical self-defense and basic street smarts are a part of our introductory training.

What other important information do I need to know before applying to the internship program?

As an intern you are not eligible for benefits such as weekly pay, medical coverage, or paid sick or personal days. Please make sure your medical insurance is up to date or purchased prior to your arrival to NYC.

When can internship applications be submitted?

Applications can be submitted at any time during the year.

Aside from internship fees, what else should I plan to budget for?

We suggest that you allow yourself $1,000-$2,000 spendable money for the duration of your 4 month internship period.

As an intern, do I need to be fluent in English?

Interns are not required to speak English fluently.  A satisfactory level of proficiency of the English language is essential.

Is the internship program a prerequisite for a staff position?

No, internship is not a requirement for a staff position at Metro World Child.
